Taking Great Care of Pets

Beware of Dangerous Cat!

July 3rd, 2009 Filed under: All other Pets by allaboutpets

If you are planning on buying or adopting a cat, you should keep several things in mind. Hair might be a problem for some, and constant grooming is required, depending on the cats breed. Cats are also known for sharpening their claws on whatever they can find, and this includes your couch and armchairs, and lastly, the litter box must be kept clean at all times.

I knew all of the above, but still decided to get one. I took it upon myself to take care of a small, Birmanese kitten. It was cute, soft, warm, and cuddly, and my girlfriend loved playing with it. It got used to us in a couple of days, and soon, nothing in the apartment was safe from its curious little paws.

When I say nothing, I mean nothing. My favorite CDs were totally and completely scratched by that cat  to death, I had to buy something to put over my couch because it was getting destroyed and I always had to make sure it had something to eat. If it didn’t, it had a bad habit of getting up on the kitchen table and sinking its paws into anything it could find. Try drinking milk with kitty hair in it…

One of the things my kitty ruined, and I felt most sorry about, was my iriver clix . I found it all chewed up and mangled, in a corner. My girlfriend thought it was really funny, but was one of the best mp3 players I’ve ever had. Since I was seriously considering giving the kitty away, she bought me a new one, to make sure I didn’t.

I now know better, and keep all my important things inside a locked desk. If something else is scratched, it’s my fault for leaving it outside. My kitty now has full reign of the house, and thinks everything is good for eating, scratching, or chewing. What a bothersome, but very sweet, pet!

Be Aware Of The Things When Going To Purchase a Cage for your Pet Bird

July 3rd, 2009 Filed under: Birds by allaboutpets

When you decide to have a pet bird, you should remember that it requires adequate living space. Fact is this that, you got to consider this thing as and when you plan to purchase one.

Bird cages come in different and sizes. The general rule when buying it is that this should always be a lot bigger than your pet bird. Keeping your pet bird in a small cage that is too small for them is bad because it often leads to undesirable behavior like biting, feather plucking, screaming and certain psychological disorders.

The ideal bird cage should allow the bird walk around comfortably and fully extend or flap their wings. Give also some consideration when you also put inside food, water and toys since these also take up some space inside the cage.

As bar spacing is there all around bird cages are very open. Pay attention to the spacing in the bird cage because if it is too wide, your bird may squeeze and escape through the bars. Those owners who keep small birds, the spacing should be half inch or less than that apart. The cage which has vertical as well as horizontal bars, you should look for, if you have a big bird.

While inspecting the different bird cages, check the latch or the lock which keeps it closed. Can this be easily opened by the bird? Believe it or not, some birds can do this so be sure that this can’t happen.

Probably it must be already known to you that bird cages come in various shapes. When you are shopping for it, try to get angled cages instead of round ones as some studies have shown round cages are not good for the health of the bird. You should not worry when you decide to get an angled cage because these can still be hung or placed on a stand.

Another thing to consider when shopping for bird cages is if this can easily be cleaned. Yes this has to be cleaned and washed especially when the bird droppings accumulate so you should not have any problems removing and returning it.

Whenever you go shopping, you want value for your money and the same goes when you are buying a bird cage. The quality it is made of should be very good and solid. If the material used is metal, naturally it must be stainless steel which is easy for you to clean and non-toxic.

The last thing you have to consider when choosing a cage for your pet bird is where you will be putting it once you bring it home. The ideal spot should be spacious and far away from drafts and windows.

Knowing how to choose the right cage for your pet bird will ensure that it will live for a very long time with its new owner namely you. If you are working, make sure that there are a few things inside the cage to keep it entertained by buying the bird some accessories, perches and toys.

While some birds can stay in the cage the whole day, find time to bring it home every so often so it can fly around the house and get a little workout. Just be sure that the windows and doors are closed when you decide to do it otherwise this could fly out and you will never see your bird again.

Build a Chicken Coop - Your Ultimate Guide

July 2nd, 2009 Filed under: All other Pets by allaboutpets

While growing up, many of us cannot remember a time in our life when we did not own anyhens. A lot of us have childhood memories of going out and feeding the chicken. Every day when we go out to feed the birds, we flash back to feeding the chickens as a child. Sometimes, those childhood memories are something that one is really fond of. Do you have childhood memories like this? Do you remember helping your parents build a chicken coop? Chances are you did not know exactly what is going on. Now, here you are, sitting there wondering how to build a chicken coop. As we write this article, we are going to give you some information that you need in order to build those birds a home.

First of all, before you even get the birds, you need to take the size into consideration. How big should your chicken coop be? Personally, we believe it should be a big one. A lot of people prefer building a smaller chicken coop, so they can transport it. If you do not plan on taking you chickens for a ride anywhere, then opt for that bigger one.

For every bird that will be in the coop, you will need to have 4 square feet. In order for the hens to lay more and be stress free, you will need to make it big.

Besides, making the house big is not going to take much more work. Sure, you will need some more material, but these materials are not that expensive.

Before you start to build this big house, you will need to figure out where to place it. It is important that you place the chicken coop in the right place; I recommend putting it in a place where the sunlight shines bright in the morning hours. There is something about chickens and that morning sun as they absolutely enjoy it.

In order to have your birds laying more eggs, placing them in the morning sunlight and having them in a big enclosure will definitely do the job.

You do not need to purchase that many materials in order to put all of this together. Basically, you need some wood, nails, mesh wire and a hammer. If you would like to put shingles on your roof, then you can do that as well.

When you have the frame put up, you may need some help when it comes to putting the roof on. At this point, when you have the roof on, it will be time to put that mesh wire up. No matter what you do, even if you have to put a ton of nails and staples through it, we highly recommend you not leaving any gaps between that wiring. If you leave gaps, you will make it easy for those predators to grab one of your birds. There are many wild animals out there that would love to have your chicken for dinner. I have no doubt that you will find that building a chicken coop is real fun. Now that you know how to build a chicken coop, it is time to get going.

Pet Rabbits For Pets

July 2nd, 2009 Filed under: All other Pets by allaboutpets

When it’s time for your family to get a pet, there are a number of decisions to make before deciding on the ideal family pet.  There are numerous factors that you should consider when you are picking a pet for kids, including the pet’s size and eating habits.

A rabbit may seem ideal for some families because of its size and eating habits.  However, take into consideration that rabbits can be a little difficult because of their natural reactions and inclinations.  For example, rabbits are a pet that doesn’t like to be held or touched.

When you try to hold a rabbit against its will they may try to bite, kick, or scratch trying to get free of your grip.  Young children who want to hold and play with a pet shouldn’t be given a rabbit.  Rabbits just aren’t social in nature, like cats and dogs.

In addition to being hard to hold, rabbits take a good deal of time to feel at home in their new environment.  It is also a lengthy process for them to bond with their owner.  It takes time and patience to work with a rabbit before it even considers itself at home as a family pet.  Children are usually not satisfied with this type of behavior from their family pet.

Rabbits can also be destructive.  It is their natural habit to chew through anything in their environment.  Anything inappropriate for chewing should be kept away from your rabbit.  A rabbit will just as easily chew up cables and electrical wires as shoes and furniture legs.  The size or shape doesn’t matter.  Rabbits just chew.

The last thing you should keep in mind is that rabbits require time and attention.  Rabbits must be fed pellets or fruits and vegetables.  They are herbivores and will not eat any meat.  Their cage has to be cleaned every day, and they have to be supplied with fresh water constantly.  When getting supplies, you can find cheap rabbit cages online. It’s a lot of work to own a rabbit as a pet, however, for some individuals, rabbits make ideal pets.

Career advice on becoming a vet

July 1st, 2009 Filed under: All other Pets by allaboutpets

What does the job of being a vet involve? Obviously you treat injured animals, but is there is more to it than that?

It can take just as long to become a veterinary surgeon as it can to become a docotor, as after school you need to attend four years of college and then four years of veterinary school to begin with. Getting a placement at an animal hospital can help with credit, but it wont make your time any shorter actually in college. Getting into a veterinary college can be tough, so you have to really want to be one to get in. There are many different diseases to learn about, but also a number of different spieces you may have to treat along the way. A doctor of humans will only have to learn male and female human anatomy, but a vet has a fair few speices to consider learning about. Thats before youve even thought about considering whether to make one animal spieces a priority. Quite similar to the bar exam in law is the final exam in veterinary school, as without it you legally cant treat animals. Passing the state exam doesnt allow you to practice law in all other states, which means you need to think about which state you take the exam in.

Being a vet also means constant updating of your skills, keeping up to date with the latest practices that are taking place in the medical field. You will also need to pledge to help animals and take the veterinary version of a doctors oath. The most horrible thing about being a vet might be coming attached to an animal that you cant save and in the end, you have to put them down to stop there suffering- not an easy thing to do. You may find that last part difficult to deal with, so keep that in mind if your considering this as a career.

So if becoming a vet sounds like something you could throw yourself into, then go for it -the fluffy kittens and puppies need you.

July 1st, 2009 Filed under: All other Pets by allaboutpets

Are EBooks the Easiest Way to Make Money From Home?

Not long ago I received a surprising message on my answering system. It was from my beloved ex-girlfriend who I’d dated for a few years. I really thought she was the one I’d marry and live happily ever after with. But when we broke up, she complained that I wasn’t financially stable and in her opinion incapable of supporting a family. Whew! Talk about having your self-esteem flushed down the toilet.

Have you ever seen on blogs and websites little text ads that blend right in the website. They look like they are actually part of the content, but they grab your interests and get you to click. There are two simple ways that you can profit with these little ads.

Get a reliable internet connection. Obviously, you will need a reliable internet connection to perform your job. I recommend that you shop around and solicit recommendations from people in your neighborhood to figure out the best internet service provider in your area. The price shouldn’t be your first consideration. Sign up with the company that can get you online 24/7.

My success hasn’t gone unnoticed. That brings us back to the message my ex-girlfriend left on my answering system. She said she had heard through a mutual friend that I was doing really well and she said that she was very proud of me and happy for my success.

Once you’ve written your article about how to take care of your 4-month old puppy, Google will ask you if you want to run their ads on your blog. If yes, you’ll get paid every time someone clicks on the ad. Google charges the advertisers and keeps part of the profits and share the rest with you.

And since you have a Google blog, your article can appear in the Google search engine in minutes. With over 2 billion people online at any given time searching for things like taking care of their puppy, you’ll have visitors to your website in no time - and it didn’t cost you a dime.
